Help Cracked screen fix question

I cracked my S3 screen last week and was quoted between $119 depending on how they judge the severity of the crack. my question: is it worth it to pay the $119+ to fix it? I like the phone and don't have insurance. I looked online and in my area Sprint S3s are going for about $225 used in good shape. If anyone suggests I do it myself, I'd rather not. I don't have time, tools or the patience and I'm afraid I'd only further damage it. I need to have an active phone for work. Thanks for any advice coming my way! :)

Just the outer part it. I haven't taken it in because I haven't had time. The phone works fine (using it to post this)

Then thats a really cheap part to buy bro but ive read a lot of horror stories when people try to replace it at home.
Its honestly like a $20 piece of glass but its glued onto the rest of the display panel.
How long do you have left on the phones 1year warranty? (I know the warranty wont cover this but doing a repair job outside samsung will void it)
If the warranty only has a few months left, get the glass replaced in a non-samsung repair shop. Samsungs price includes the whole display panel and digitizer and yours arent damaged so dont pay their price

That's what kills me. I've seen how cheap the actual glass is and the fact that the whole thing is glued together is rather ridiculous to me. I purchased the phone new in December so it has 6 months as far as the warranty goes. I happen to have three phone repair shops near me on the same road and the rates are around the $119-$225 range again depending on what the shop deems necessary to fix. It's frustrating. The shops have told me they would have to basically replace the digitizer, LCD etc so it's leaning more towards $225.

When I bought it new in December I happened to be apart of a buy one get one free promo from sprint and therefore I got 2 S3s, one for me and one for my fiancé, for just $55 after we traded in our old phones. I'd hate to put it $225 to fix a phone I didn't pay that much for....:(

If the phone works, why not call and get insurance on the phone. Once it is active, call and get it replaced. But before you do that, make sure the deductible isn't more than what you've already been quoted.

Not sure if that will work or not but it is worth a shot.

Thats heavy man. Did you see the guide i think someone posted on this forum about replacing the glass? It seemed good. From the people ive read on here that have messed up replacing it, it seems like most of them probably damaged the ribon wire that leads to the digitizer so theyve lost touch response.
Id try a bit harder with the independent repair shops in your area and TELL them that you know the glass alone can be replaced and what price will they do it for. If its done properly, it should be impossible for samsung to know its been replaced so your warranty should still be cool..
..none of the phones screws have to be touched, it just needs a heat gun and a guitar pic lol :)

I would take a stab at it but I'm waiting on an important work call in the next few days and my phone can't be out of commission :(

I also don't have a screen yet. I'm afraid if I wasn't careful that I would just do further damage to the phone :(

Hey funky I read the post you were talking about regarding repairing. It seems like it could be a cheap job to do but it's a bit risky. I'll keep you updated, mate

Hey funky, I ended up weighing my options and my cheapest one was to get a FREE Sprint-verified pre-owned phone from Sprint's website. I had to pay some small minor taxes but shipping is free and it should be here in 2-5 days :) it's cheaper than paying $99-$299+ and it would even be cheaper than if I had insurance ($150). So hopefully the phone comes soon! :) thanks for the suggestions and tips, mate! Cheers!

Most insurance plans will not cover any pre-exisiting conditions and will likely have a 60 day waiting period before allowing a claim. If it were otherwise nobody would ever buy insurance until something breaks.

Exactly. Sprint won't help me on that so they pointed me in the direction of used pre-owned phones. Much cheaper route.

There are ways to insure an already broken phone but i guess its fraud so i wont go into it and anyway, you would still have to pay the deductible (we call it "excess" here)
Think Jack got a good deal here :)
Does the refurb' phone come with full warranty mate?
