Crap! Is water damage covered?

So I finally got a 'real' phone, and I like it a lot. HTC Hero.

About a week after I got it, I was getting out of my friend's car here in beutiful Chicago when it fell in a super cold, muddy puddle. It was almost entirely submerged. I grabbed it within 2 seconds or so and dried it in my shirt. Since then, everything has been running slowwwww. It's a pain in my ass.

I bought the phone at Best Buy Mobile, a little mall store where all they sell is phones and the like. She sold me on the Best Buy Geek Squad fancy pants total protection, and I could almost swear that she said water damage is covered but I don't remember.

My fear is that if I call to ask, and the answer is no, they are going to know who I am and that I have water damage.

Please help, I have had the phone about 3 weeks and I don't want to buy a new one.
 
That is what they told me. Water damage is covered with their best buy insurance and theft or loss is not covered.

Pretty much the opposite of the sprint coverage.
 
you may have someone else call. Just say like they are thinking of buying a phone there and want to know what their insurance covers

So you're saying that if water damage isn't covered, loss is?

Either way, I'll probs just go into Best Buy and ask them, maybe without the phone in my pocket.
