The phone is amazing but here latley 3 g has bogged down, my question is can installing an ap have this side effect, also I live in houston and always have full bars, 4g is good but the battery it uses isnt

3g has been crap everywhere literally for sprint. Stick to 4g mate.

Sprint 4g can go from 2mbps -> 10mbps (if you're lucky)
while 3g usually hovers at dial up speed...

*Just did a speedtest for 4g and 3g
4G - 4.33 MBPS down / 1.86mbps up
3g - 94 kbps down / 34 kbps up
Wifi - 12.64 mbps down / 1.58 mbps up (XD)

But in short. No, theres no app that can help improve your 3g speeds that I know of.

I haven't found any apps but Iv'e notice an increase in 3g speeds and better 3g streaming video in the San Diego area when I followed the instructions from the link below.

How to Increase Sprint Epic 4G Touch 3G & 4G Data Speeds - Android Forums at AndroidCentral.com

Note:You have to register with androidcentral to view the instructions if you don't have a login yet and even then I was only able to view it completely in firefox with no hassle, Google chrome ask you to modify your cookies.

Yes installing an app can cause this side effect if its constantly sending data in the background without your knowledge, unnoticeable on the faster 4G, but very noticeable on the already slow 3g net. I just suggested minutes ago in another thread for someone to install 3g watchdog, which can monitor individual apps data usage, in case something fishy is going on.

awsome app works well, should I be worried about running in the backgroud, mainly battery issues...

Im sure it will drain your battery faster than normal, the trick is to determine if you have any rogue apps hogging your bandwidth, and once youve eliminated him, uninstall watchdog

I'ma new sprint customer and I was getting horrid speeds in my home .23 dwn .05 up for about two days.I gave sprint a call in the morning time and they told me that there was a outage and it was being fixed. Tonight my 3g speeds are decent 1.61 dwn average and .52 upload. Problem solved I guess
