Crappy battery!!!

I got my original Maxx on 2/10 and the battery was amazing, but after a couple days the phone would not receive any 4g connection so I went to the store to have it looked at and they tried all the tricks and nothing worked. So they gave me a replacement phone. Now Im having no signal issues but my battery is only lasting me about 12 hours with being set up the exact same way as my initial Maxx that was pulling 28-30 hours on straight 4g. I think I got another dud. Anyone else have this problem??

battery stats can reveal a LOT.

I've been heavy use all day today, and mine just went from 70% to 60%, assuming it's in the high 60's since I changed leaving work and then at home.

If I used my SGN like this today, it would be at probably 20-30%. I have also only really had 1 real discharge cycle, so batterystats haven't been collected (it gets better after a few days!)

I hope so because my first charge cycle on my initial Maxx lasted me 30hrs and 16mins and with this phone it was like 12hrs or so. Im now on my 3rd charge on this phone and it hasnt gone more then 14hrs

Heres my current usage for today....

5h 36m 39s on battery

Android OS 43% 33m 24s
Display 31% 49m 14s
Voice Calls 7% 2m 59s
Phone Idle 7% 4h 47m 24s
Cell Standby 6% 5h 36m 39s
Browser 4% 2m 39s
RILD 2% 49s <------not even sure what this is

And battery is saying what percent?

Dunno what to say, even that looks in line. Let's try to tackle this!

Obvious, no Advanced Task Killers, etc. As the battery goes down, might get more info. Ah, some stuff in 2.x gets reported in Android OS! so might be hard to track!

How's your LTE signal strength? Install "sensorly" from the app store but don't let it track you or background. If you are in an office all day.... get your LTE dBm, I'll bet it's really low and the radio is trying it's little train best.

If you are on fringe LTE, might have some issues.... report, then uninstall that app. I have it on my bionic and it keeps being reported as an app using resources.

Again, just shooting from the hip here... I'm an engineer in real life, so I might over discuss, but that might help to find the problem... but it's on the internet so harder than in real life....

Sorry forgot to put the battery level...its currently at 60% with those stats. I am in an office but I get very strong signal in here. Full bars of 4g. Ill try the app and see what it says...

And yes im not running any type of task killer or anything. Not even smart actions

Its saying my signal strength is -85 dBm. Not really sure what that means tho

If you are on 4G, that's the 3G signal, thought that was common knowledge.

See note above about one app where you can see your actual 4G signal. Careful about options in that app, as it can run and run and run in the background. Hence the suggestion to use it then ditch it.

Yeah I am on 4g and I used the app you said to get the signal strenght. I have full bars of 4g right now. And my Speedtest readings are 27.58mbps download, 15.00 mbps upload and 70ms ping

I would expect that with -87dbm, but I've never actually seen -87dbm, even standing right under a tower or a block away from it... hmmm.

Speeds are in check for a good signal, and pings are in check for good signal, actually those are exceptional so maybe rule out the radio....

Gotta be an app in my first IMHO!

Yeah its really driving me crazy!! I have no different apps from my original Maxx installed and that phone started off with great battery life. Im gonna give this one a couple more days and if it doesnt get better Im gonna go for another replacement

Let the battery drain until the Maxx shuts off, then charge it uninterrupted to 100%. This improved my battery life alot.

Yeah I'm on my 3rd chrge/discharge cycle and it hasnt improved any. Gonna give it a few more days

Do the discharge til it shuts off once a month. After that say once a week let the batt run down to 20% so the batt gets a workout

That was a thread title I never expected to see in this forum!

It sounds like an app to me but it is odd that you have the same apps as before. Do the apps that interact with the internet have the same settings as before? Good luck!

Yeah Ive been running the battery down til it shuts off. Every app I have installed is set up the exact same way as before. I really dont have many apps on it yet. Im thinking I git a bad battery or something.

U can do a worry free guarantee exchange. I would do that. Just do the batt drain once. Also shut your background data off that will help. Go to settings data manager and turn off background data.
Long story but I got another Maxx yesterday. Let the batt drain last night.
Charged it all the way to 100% it was for the most part consistent til it got to 100%. Now mind u I have had my data off all day. But I unplugged my phone at a out 8am and its almost 8pm and I have 70% batt. Have been doing a lot of texting. Some games at least an hour and just plain ol messing with it. My screen is set fo full brightness as well. Oh and I do have beautiful widgets but I think refresh is set to every 4hrs.
Also I ha e turned on wi-fi and have been messing around on the market place as well.

Since this is a thread about batteries, here's an article from the BatteryUniversity.com website that contains a wealth of info.

Charging Lithium-Ion Batteries ? Battery University

If you search around the wesite, there is a lot of information there. In the above linked article there's a couple paragraphs regarding "over charging" and "over discharging" Li-ion batteries.

I'm not posting this as an answer to the OP's problem, just general info on Li-Ion batteries for smartphones if anyone is interested.
