Creating database tables in android on the fly

Hi all,
I am a newbie to android. My application requires creating database in sqllite tables dynamically.How can I do this? I have used a helper class. Can I call the upgrade method each time i want to create a table n is it mandatory to update the version each time a table is added? When I tried to create a table outside the helper class it throws exception saying "no such table exists"
