Creating "To-Do" Reminder With Repeating Alarm

Hi,
I have a Samsung Galaxy Ace and I need to be able to create an audible reminder for a "to-do" (Nokia terminology), but one that will repeat itself until I intervene. The reason for this is that I may be out of the room when the first reminder sounds and I want it to repeat at defined intervals (on my old Nokia, it simply kept sounding at short intervals until I stopped it).
I am using "calendar" to create an event, as I can't find any other way of doing this.
I don't understand the event settings e.g. why I need a from and to date and time, but assume this is to facilitate a more commercial use of the calendar. I set the reminder to 1 minute, but don't really know what that does. Anyway, it only sounds once, which is not of any use.
Does anybody have advice on a better method, or have a link to a comprehensive document that would walk me through setting (repeating) reminders. Better still a free app that would do what I need.
Thanks,
Tommy

does it have to be a repeating reminder? or would something that pops up on the screen and stays until you dismiss it or "snooze" it work?

If so, look into Any.Do - I've been extremely happy with it, and it's free.

I've been using Tasker to produce repeating audible alerts for notifications that remain uncleared. It works reliably, but it's extreme overkill if that's all you're going to do with it. Also, the current iteration of my profiles requires that the device be rooted (to determine which notifications remain).

Thanks Gingersnapgirl and Unclemike. I sometimes need to have a "to-do" set in the middle of the night, so I would need an audible/repeating signal. I'll give tasker a go.

I'm new to this forum and I have 2 further (related) questions. Should I keep going on this thread or set up new threads.

If you're OK with using the calendar to enter your "to-do", the program Calendar Snooze will do what you want. You can set it to sound an alert at a user chosen interval (from 30 seconds to 2 hours), and how many times it should remind you. On the free version, you're limited to 5 reminders per event, the pay version is unlimited.

It does a lot more, too, but should do what you need.

Thanks Meyerweb. Sounds just like what I want. I have 2 follow-up questions.
1) When I installed the app, it said NOT to save to sim card or reminders will be lost. It just occurs to me that I do not know hot to set the default location for downloads.
2) How can I backup/restore my calendar to-do's to a PC
