Crossed out eye

Hi
I often get a symbol at the bottom of my screen that is an eye inside a circle and the the eye has a diagonal line through it. The word "Hide" is undernesth the eye in a circle.
I cant seem to get rid of this and I cannot get the keyboard to apprear while it is showing. I restart my phone to get rid of it.
any clues as to what this is about and how I can clear without restarting?

It sounds like it could possibly be related to the new smart stay feature:

You could try disabling it and see if the icon goes away.

Any chance you can post a screenshot of what you are describing?

Sounds like the smartstay feature on samsung phones.. the idea is the camera looks at you, to see if you're looking at the screen, and keeps the screen on whilst you're looking at it.
