Crossing the Pond?

Hi All, Just dropped in here from the Desire forum.

I'm in the market for an Android tablet and will be in the States for a week or so very soon. Was thinking of purchasing a tablet and maybe even a phone while over there but wondered if they would work over here in GB???
My Desire is GSM I don't know if there is any difference in UK/US phones or Tablets.

Can anyone help?

The difference in phones will be 3G bands. The US uses a different set so they may not work outside North America. If the Tablet is a WiFi only version I don't think it would be a problem.

AT&T and T-Mobile have always used GSM for their 3G networks. Verizon (not sure about Sprint) was CDMA until they rolled out their LTE network (LTE is based off of GSM, so they switched over). Their newer phones should support GSM.

Wifi only devices should work anywhere. If you're looking for a 3G/4G device, there are some phones that should work, but not all. Anything advertised as a "World Phone" should be fine as far as I know.

I'm not sure what the advantage of buying a tablet or phone in the U.S. instead of the U.K. would be...

+1

Saint2710, you should be fine if you get a Galaxy Nexus as its pentaband for GSM and HSPA(+). So, it will work with any GSM carrier in the world :) Plus it comes unlock, so you don't have to worry about unlocking it.

I would think the price is the biggest factor.
