Yes you can root your G1 just follow one of the many guides to rooting and use the proper files in the proper order ...

The guide I use to intially flash my G1 is in my signature below ...

Read Carefully before starting ... Download all files and any apps that are mentioned ....

Read Guide Again .... and then procede exactly as noted in the guide ...

If you do this in order you should be rewarded with a better operating phone ... if you dont you can end up with a bricked phone ...
