Curb Network Usage

TitanLo

Lurker
When I am not on wifi I basically would like no network usage unless I specifically open the application or go on the browser.
And is there any way I can stop running services and apps permanently. For example the BBC News app runs and gathers data constantly.

I understand there is probably no simple way that this all can be accomplished.

Has anyone got any advice on this issue?
Thanks in advance... :)

If you are rooted, you can use droidwall.

DroidWall (Root Required) - Android app on AppBrain

There are data toggle widgets that can completely shut off the mobile data. My Dinc came with one, but there are more inthe marketplace.

Droidwall is very nice, as mentioned above. If you are not rooted, I would use a data toggle switch from the net (just to make things quicker for you). The drawback of this is, unlike droidwall, which allows you to set which apps you DO want to allow access to all the time, a data toggle is going to cut data to all your apps when set to off. This might be exactly what you are looking for though. Not sure!
