Custom Notification ringtone doesn't seem to be ringing

Atraxi

Hi,

I downloaded the Ring Extended App (which doesn't exactly appear as an App but rather adds a selection onto which sounds you want to choose from when deciding what ringtones to select-either Android sounds or Ring Extended sounds).

With that in mind, how do I uninstall it?

Why do I want to uninstall it?

Because the custom Notification sound effect I have selected doesn't seem to want to engage when a Notification comes through.

Let me see if I understand this correctly......Notifications come through and appear in the upper left hand corner of ones phone, right? They can be downloads one has taken, or advertisements, or updates pending, or phone calls missed, etc. You get the idea, right?

Is that a correct understanding of Notifications?

Well then, shouldn't there be an associated Notification ringtone that sounds off when any kind of notification comes through?

That is my understanding of the situation. Am I in error about that?

Please tell me how I can correct this malfunction of the notification sound effect ringtone to make it sound off every time a notification comes through......or else tell me how I can uninstall Rings Extended permanently, and perhaps download a better functional App that will let me customize my chosen sound effect.

Thanks and I hope someone can help me.

PS This is my first question and I am learning my way around this Forum-so much to learn. This Forum is big!

Honestly, I don't mess with adding apps like that. They often don't work right and, as you said, don't apply the ringtone properly.

For phone ringtone, I ALWAYS use the 'sound' and settings in Android, never an app. For SMS/MMS, I use GoSMS and use it to select the ringtone (it seems to override Android anyway). I've found with all my phones, if you use an alternate SMS/MMS app, use it to choose your notification tones and use sound/settings for ringtones.

I bought the complete RCP set some months back and then just took the sounds from the folder it came with and put them in the default ringtones folder. That way you can use the extra ringtones in the default android system settings. You can do this with any sounds you want. rather than using a third party app, just drag and drop the sounds into the default ringtones folder

Thanks for the replies. Well, I am like a lot of other people, I guess. I am insistent upon hearing the sounds I want to hear rather than what the company wants me to hear.

To IMUcarmen: what does RCP stand for? I am interested in learning how to download the sounds I want and place them into folders and implement them where I want. But I don't know how to do any of this yet. Can someone show and tell me step by step how to manipulate folders?

For instance, where is the clipboard and how do I get to it? Or, how do I download a file and find out where it goes? Then, if I knew where to find it, how do I move it to where I want it?

This info would be a big help. Thanks to all.

I have used rings extended for over two years on my HTC Evo and my wife's old Samsung Moment, never had any issues with it. Did you use the Spectrum (from the home screen)
menu > settings > sound > notification ringtone
Menu in order to get rings extended to launch?

Might be an app for accessing the clipboard, I dunno.

Download locations depend on the app. "Downloads" on your SD card is the OS default, dolphin browser puts them in a directory inside a dolphin directory on your SD card (name dependant on which version of dolphin you are using). Some other apps create a "download" or "downloads" directory. (yes you can have "Downloads" and "downloads" on your SD card).

You can make a ringtone directory on your SD card (or inside a media directory on your SD card) and Android will show those files when you go to select a ringtone.

The first thing you do is read the manual cover to cover.

OK, well, at least the part about connecting your phone to a PC via the USB/Charging cable.

And you install the drivers from here:
LG VS920 Support: Find Manuals & Warranty Info | LG USA

In the root of the SD card, you can create these sub-directories
Music - Media scanner classifies all media found here as user music.
Podcasts - Media scanner classifies all media found here as a podcast.
Ringtones - Media scanner classifies all media found here as a ringtone.
Alarms - Media scanner classifies all media found here as an alarm sound.
Notifications - Media scanner classifies all media found here as a notification sound.
Pictures - All photos (excluding those taken with the camera).
Movies - All movies (excluding those taken with the camcorder).
Download - Miscellaneous downloads.

Then you can get ringtones from the web or another source and place them in the appropriate directories (Ringtones, Alarms, Notifications), transfering them to the phone via the USB cable from your PC.

Then the phone's media scanner will find them when the phone boots up, and those sounds will be in the drop-down lists that allow you to select a sound for one of these events.

BTW, your contacts can each have their own Ringtones so you can identify who is calling you by the sound generated by the phone.

Hi and thanks for the replies.

As best I remember, I saw Rings Extended in a Forum somewhere and simply went to Google Play Store, read about it, and downloaded it from there in the usual manner. I liked the way it integrated itself into the Norification Ringtones and regular phone ringtones without creating an App for itself. But nevertheless, it didn't seem to work. Maybe other issues are preventing it from working. I can't begin to speculate.

I am currently using File Manager because it has a simple look to it. But I still don't fully know how to use a file manager system on a cell phone. The entire cell phone process is quite a different experience from using a computer. For me, this is an entirely new learning curve. How do I use a file manager on a cell phone? Am I mistaken that it is different from using a computer in the same ways you would save a file and put your download in the folder or file where you want it?

I can't seem to find Save buttons, Save As buttons, etc. like one would find on a computer.

As far as reading the manual, I have not searched for it yet. But does anyone know the exact location (.pdf file location) of it for the LG Spectrum cell phone?

Thanks. I'll keep playing with it and awaiting any other replies!

sorry! I just now saw your post. I've been ignoring this thread because I didnt remember posting here. RCP is just an app with professional sounding tones rather than songs and melody's. As far as messing with the folders you can do that through a root browser like solid explorer or the easiest way is to hook it up to your pc and your phones sd card will show up like any other folder. From there you can create new folders and drag and drop.

Sorry again for not responding sooner. I'll try to remember to check this thread when a new post shows up.

ES File Explorer or Astro File Explorer should work for you.

The Spectrum manual is here (scroll down till you see device manual on the left):
