Root Custom recovery?

I am assuming there's really no custom recovery available yet for the G3 yes? Is there a viable method to make a nandroid at this point? Any thoughts?

For AT&T? There is a bounty for those who can unlock the bootloader, thereby allowing folks on AT&T and Verizon the ability to flash a custom recovery.

Ive read of people using a tethered recovery. I believe it may be available through the android sdk tools. not sure though. I didn't inquire b/c I'm just not going to go that far just yet. I can live without flashing for a while.
