Help Custom Ringtones Disappeared

A couple of days ago, all the custom notification sounds were set to random default sounds. When I went to reset them, I saw that my custom ringtones were no longer in the list of available sounds. I checked to make sure the MP3 files were still in the ringtones/notifications folders and they are. Clearing the data from the Media Storage app & rebooting the phone did not fix the issue. The same thing happened on my Nexus 4 as well.

Anybody got any ideas? Thanks

There is a .nomedia file in an ancestor directory to my ringtones/notifications folders. I had assumed that it would not affect sub-directories. Based on your response, I'm guessing that was a wrong assumption. Is there a way to make .nomedia only affect the directory it's in (not recursive) or do I just need to work on rearranging my files/directories?

I'm pretty sure the .nomedia file tells the OS not to scan that folder in it's entirety so any subfolders etc wouldn't be scanned either.

Try temporarily removing it, see if that makes a difference?

Removing the .nomedia file from the ancestor directory did the trick. I haven't found anything that suggests there is a way to prevent the .nomedia file from affecting sub-directories, so I guess I'll need to rearrange my file structure.

Thanks for the help!
