Help Custom Rom Question

Hi Friends,
A buddy of mine did the update from cyanogen to cyanogen and oxygen it didn't work so the support did a manipulation to only put oxygen OS without cyanogen and under Android 5.0.1 instead of cyanogen 12 Android 5.1.1 and oxygen. (This is just what I think, I am not sure If I am right). I think that the upgrade will remain as is, but all her files and apps will be gone. She also wanted to know, why things didn´t go the way she planned. Could if have been something she did?

My question is: if she does a factory reset, will her phone be like when she bought it?

That depends what she's doing. Did she unlock the bootloader, flash a custom recovery and root?? If she has a custom recovery like TWRP (she should if she wants to install a custom rom) then a factory reset, if and ONLY if done from TWRP or a custom recovery, it will not wipe things like photos, music, etc. It will delete all user installed apps and their data but not media.
