Hi guys,
I have just rooted my phone (Neken N6) & want to install a custom ROM. I have been into needroms.com & it suggests that the only compatible ROM is MIUI. I downloaded it & it wasn't long until I reverted back to the stock OS. I hated the IOS look & feel, also even though I set the lingo to English some was in Chinese still.
Is there no other ROM that would be compatible with my phone?

You can lose the iOS look of MIUI by adding a launcher to it.
An unusual phone like that isn't likely to be supported by CM or similar, but you could always try the CyanogenMod website too see. But your best bet is if someone with the same phone has managed to port a ROM to it.

It's a cheap Chinese phone so I'm not surprised MIUI is the only ROM available. I'd take Hadron's advice and look to see if a third party launcher would help you out.

1. i want to update my kernel as from reading different posts people suggest that it improves batter life. can you confirm this & if so where can i download the custom kernal & how do i flash it to my phone?
2. i want to remove pre installed apps from my phone but dont know how and what is safe to remove. can someone advise me please.
3. is it possible to run more than one rom on the phone? i want to give miui another go but i dont want to lose my current setup. i know i can back up but it takes time.
4.the android system notifies me with a popup and loud beeping when at 15% battery and at 3%. how can i turn this off. i have removed the battery notify app in titanium but it hasnt stopped it

1) Running a custom kernel is a simple way to get some extra performance as well as battery life. However, like ROMs, these are device specific. If there arent many ROMS for your device, chances are there may not be many kernel choices either.
It also requires that your manufacturer has posted the kernel source code somewhere to be modified
2) Preinstalled apps can be removed using a root enabled file explorer or an app like titanium backup.
However, since many of us have no experience with your device, it's best to disable apps rather than remove them. That can be done on most devices vie the settings>apps menu
3) Only 1 ROM can be running at a time. There are various ways to dual boot, but the availability of those options depend on the development community for your device.
Kernels need to be built for the phone (and in some cases the ROM, e.g. AOSP ROMs often need different kernel builds from those based on a manufacturer's stock ROM). So you have the same problem as with the ROM: has anyone built one for your phone? If they have then it can most likely be installed the same way as a ROM.
We don't know what pre-installed apps are on your phone, so it's hard to answer the second. Let us know what you want to remove and we may be able to advise. "freezing" an app with Titanium Backup rather than uninstalling may be safer, as it's easier to reverse, but be careful even so because if you freeze something really critical the phone could become too unstable to unfreeze it again. I usually advise taking a backup from recovery (a nandroid backup) before messing with system apps.
There are multi-ROM setups for some phones, but I don't know about yours. Backup and switch would be my advice. You can have more than one backup at a time.
