Root Custom ROMs & Carrier Codes

I just replied to someone about needing to be on a stock-based ROM to use carrier codes, e.g. ##3282#.

Does anyone know why it is that the custom ROMs (AOKP, AOSP, etc.) can't use these?

Yes, that's true, the epst.apk is a Sense only thing and requires the stock dialer.

Depending on what needs to be done the phone can be put into diagnostic mode while using an AOSP ROM using the technique in this post, which will allow the QPST program to be used if the diagnostic drivers are also installed.
