Root Custom ROMs?

I am looking at possibly buying an Atrix 2 soon, and will be rooting straight away.
Unfortunately the root thread here is a little lacking!
So, two questions, should I do an update through my provider before updating or no? And what are the best ROMs for the atrix 2?

I can't speak for everyone else, but from what I've seen so far, this phone is slightly lacking when it comes to fully functional custom Roms.

Make sure you do your homework before installing. We don't have an unlocked bootloader, and ROMS for the Non ATT Atrix2 don't always play well with the ATT Atrix2. Something about battery issues, etc.

There is the magic jellybean mod over on XDA, but according to the changelog the camera and camcorder are still experiencing issues.

I would love to have MIUI for mine, but don't have the time to devote to figuring out how to get it ready for our phones. Supposedly it works, but has extreme battery drain.

I know once you go from GB to ICS it's difficult to get back to GB.

This phone seems much easier to brick than my last, but I'm still a NOOB.
 
Thanks for all the info. Possibly if there is nothing working great yet might just root but leave standard ROM on. Shame, as I really like CM7 on my current phone.
Have you updated to ICS then? If so, in your opinion which is better on this phone, GB or ICS?

my phone came with ICS installed. ICS with good specs was my primary focus.

It is working great for me, but i switched over from the Triumph. The atrix 2 appears to have WAY less bugs. It has worked well enough that I havent tweaked much yet. Ive had it just over a month.
