Help Custom SMS/Notification Vibration pattern?

I've tested out the custom vibration pattern for calls which works nicely, but for some reason the vibration pattern won't work for SMS messages or notifications. All I'm getting is a flat vibrate that lasts for a second.

Does anyone know if thats how the notification vibrations work or can you pick different vibration patterns for the notifications?

Hi Whitworth,
I've had a look through but I'm coming to the same conclusion you are. Looks like the custom vibration settings relate to calls only.
Also from the order of the menu options...

1. Phone Ringtone
2. Device Vibration
THEN
3. Default notifications

...I'm assuming (I know, make an ass out of myself:D) that as the notifications sound option comes after the vibrate options, that they only refer to calls.

There may be an app to do it though. Maybe someone can advise whether Go!, Handcent(sic?) or something else lets you do it.

Thanks elbeeuk, I was wondering if I was being stupid and completely missing it. Strange they didn't include the option to by default. I'll check out Handcent :)
 
Has anyone found a complete fix for this problem? I realize we can download third-party apps like Handcent to use custom SMS/MMS vibration patterns. But, what about for things like e-mails? Whenever I get an email, I get a long drawn-out buzz, and all I need is a short burst to let me know that I got something.
 
Go sms will also let you customise the vibrate pattern (as well as led colour and frequency for texts)

I think (as I said in another post earlier) that Android needs to evolve with a more harmonious way to set all your alert options in one place, and make them apply globally, but allow third party apps to still access and change the same settings if needed. It's too much of a faff trying to find one place to set an LED colour, sound, and vibrate setting for each alert.

Agreed. So, Handcent and Go SMS are options custom vibration for SMS. But, there is not yet a solution for emails?

How important is it to have a custom vibrate pattern for emails?

Or are you simply wanting the email app to give you any vibrate you can get?

My email never did vibrate after a point no matter how many times I tried. Then it suffered the deathly nand ram death and got sent out for repair, since then it's worked so I'm assuming a factory reset should get your emails vibrating again.

I want a custom vibration for emails. I have succeeded in getting the phone to actually vibrate when I receive emails, but I would like a short-burst vibration, rather than the long 3-second vibration.

The reason I need vibration is because, while at work, I need the phone to be in vibrate mode, but I need to know when I'm getting emails.
