Customization of ringtone

Any idea if I can assign a ringtone to a contact without changing the msg tone? Thank u

Depends on your phone. On my Samsung its just go to contacts, select the contact you want to have a custom ringtone, go to edit mode, and change the custom ringtone

Sorry mayb my question wasn't clear. I'm using a note 2. I have changed the ringtone but it somehow also become the tone for that contact sms tone. Is there a way to change just the ringtone w/o changing the sms tone?

Have you checked the settings inside the Messaging app? Try changing that back, and see if the ringtone for the contact reverted back as well.
