galaxy mini gt5570 rooted, CWMv4 - back up:
can mount system
E: cant mount /cache/recovery/log
E: cant mount /cache/recovery/last_log
E: cant open /cache/recovery/last_log
help please

I don't know if you have a bootstrapper or not, but an example.

I quit using Clockwork recovery and just do back ups and recoveries with my bionic bootstrap (I own the Droid Bionic).

I had problems as well with clockwork recovery.

In CWM I expect there to be an option to format the cache partition. As the problems all concern opening log files on that partition, reformatting it, or just clearing it, might fix the problem.

As cache is just for temporary files, there is nothing to lose by trying this.

so , to format cache,
and than try back up?
i have wipe cache option...

Exactly.

I sometimes wipe cache and dalvik before taking a backup just to save disk space (though it takes a little longer to boot after as it has to rebuild the dalvik).

i did so, and now only the first line appers,
iguess its improvment ahah
it used to be 16MB backup size,
and yet, 16MB

It's not much of an improvement - the previous logs have been erased, which is why you don't get those messages. But it looks like it's still unable to open a log file and is aborting the backup as a result.

Hmm. I don't know CWM 4 options in detail (used to use 2.5.0.7). Does it have a "Mounts and Storage" menu? That's where I would expect the option to format the cache partition to be. You could also test whether it can mount the cache partition, but if it could wipe it you'd think it should be able to.

did you read what i added about mini stock room?

Didn't until you pointed it out!

Ah, yes, I have heard of that, though I didn't recall which phones were affected. Some quirk of the way Samsung manage storage. Didn't associate this message with it.

Well I guess you have an answer then :(

no way to back up my mini's stock room?
so i guess, no backup=no new room to install :\
thank you any way :)

Don't worry about dalvik.

Android runs apps in a java based virtual machine called dalvik. The dalvik cache lives in your internal memory. One option a custom recovery gives is to erase the dalvik cache (not format as it isn't a storage partition). It will be rebuilt when you boot the phone, but cleaning it out may sometimes improve minor performance issues. If you did this before making a backup it would make the backup smaller, but most people don't bother (even I don't most of the time).

Not relevant to your problem.
