CWM & Nandroid Backups

Whats the difference between a CWM backup & a Nandroid? Or are they the same thing?

Please don't shoot me, but am i right in thinking the the CWM backup backs everything up e.g. the settings, apps, data etc. In other words, if i screw up my phone by being a noob fool, can i restore it back EXACTLY how it was (even to the extent of having the icons in the same places etc)?

I have googled for this info but couldn't really nail it for the anwser.

To all intents and purposes, the backup will be a snapshot of your phone "as is"
It doesnt back up your modem however so if you take a backup, change modems, then restore, you will still have the last modem you installed current.
