Root CWM restore issue

So the SuperSU binary update ended up resetting my F3.

I'm trying to restore a backup from CWM I took right when I had it set up the way I wanted. Unfortunately, CWM says "couldn't open directory. No files found." This is the result I get where I choose restore from external sd or advanced restore from external sd.

And it doesn't matter whether I start at the top with the clockwork mod folder or the dated folder it creates or just the files themselves.

Any tips here? I'm still sick about all the stuff I lost, but I'd at least like to get the phone back to where I was.

Thanks.

So on a hunch that with the reset I didn't have root, I reinstalled towelroot and ran it, made it rain, and then installed supersu and updated the binary.

However, still no joy. There is an error that comes up as CWM starts, it's something like device unlock or something, but it flashes and it's gone just that fast. Is there a list of errors for CWM? Trying to view the CWM log doesn't help either, it just loads the log in about 1/2 second and then the screen clears back to the menu.

I'm really disgusted at this point. Why a supersu binary update would reset the phone to factory settings is simply insane. I'm hoping at some point I can talk to VM and see about getting the voicemail back from my mom that she left shortly before she passed away. Honestly, that's all I really care about.

But I have to have a phone before I can get to that point.

Please, guys, give me a hand here.
are you sure you backed up to the external SD originally? if you didn't it is gone. if you did you should be able to install the SD in a computer and make sure the files are there or use a file browser app on the phone.
