Cyanogen mod? Root?

Ok guys, on my Inspire, I love everything about it. I have one question though, I am really ignorant when it comes to Android Os and what all it can do. Was at work with a buddy and he had a cyanogen mod on his G2, looked like gingerbread. Anyone know if i can get this on the Inspire? and if so how? I would love to know. If someone can post directions it would be greatly appreciated. Also, I would wanna know what I would be losing/gaining with root.

In here is a link to my thread that also has a link to XDA that will guide you through the root/ROM process. It does take some time and patiences though.

do you believe the benefits of going through the hassle is worth it it in the end?

Absolutely. The one thing that blew me away today was my battery life. Typically I unplug at 6:30am. By the time I leave work at 5pm after about 20 minutes in phone calls, 100-150 texts and about an hour of web browsing, I am at 40-45%.

Today was my first day with the ROM and I had the same usage and I'm typing this now at 6pm at 67% absolutely awesome.

I swear, ill never understand why Developers and manufacturers wont take advantage of the guys out here doing what they do. I mean if they can raise battery life and give a better user interface, why cant the big guys

I kind of like the underground developers idea. It keeps big companies on their toes and slowly push forward.

hate to be a bother Christopher, but you wouldnt happen to have that cyanogen mod link on hand would you?

Not a bother at all. I'm happy to have more people taking the step.

I actually don't have the link to the cyanogenmod rom because im using a different one.

I'm running Android Revolution HD here, http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=985363

Thanks to mattbe213 for showing me this!
