Cyanogen on Gemei?

Hi
I am new to android. I bought a Gemei G9T, with android 4. The hardware seems good value, but the firmware is not so good. I would like to replace the Gemei firmware with CyanogenMod. Can this be done?

I've never heard of that device. If there is not a Cyanogen Mod Rom for that device, the only way of doing that would be to learn how to develop. Unfortunately, learning to develop on a device that hasn't already got a development community is the hardest thing to do.

Thanks SUroot. Thought it might be a prob. Wondered if a Cyanogen version for a Tablet with similar specs would work. But not sure which specs are relevant.

The Gemei is pretty new on the market, I think. Sold by Dino among others.

Yeah the problem is the drivers for everything, including cameras, audio processors, USB controllers, screens.. .

And unlike windows machines, there are no universal drivers. Only the specifics.

Cyanogen do have scripts to pull the drivers from the rooted device but incorporating them into the source code still isn't easy

Moved thread into the more appropriate General Tablet Talk from PC and IT.

Thing is Gemei is one of hundreds or thousands of little known Chinese manufacturers. So often there is little or no detailed hardware information about these things. ROM devs such as CM tend to concentrate on the popular and welknown devices, like Samsung, HTC, Motorola and the like.

Yup, that's exactly right.

The other thing is, Chinese device makers almost never release the source code of any changes they've made to Android which are specific to their devices.

Thanks for the info. Gemei are updating firmware frequently, so will have to stay with that. Except, I have another problem! Probably should be a new thread.
