Cyanogenmod 7.1 stable

Susanno

Newbie
i read that cyanogenmod v 7.1 is finally out in its stable release, so has anyone tried it yet ?
i tried to make some researchs to find out about its advantages, but i couldn't find something in it that is missing in the other roms like revolution rom!

if anyone here that tried it, is it as fast as revolution rom ? what about the battery drain ?

I have been running it for about 2 hours ish and love it fast is a understatment my phone never moved so fast.

Other than that nothing i can say about it though. Give me a couple days and will get back to you on battery etc

I flashed it yesterday but had few problems so went back to revolution. But I thought this morning that I shouldn't right it off so quickly. So I flashed it again and have to say I'm impressed. Its quick and responsive and non of the problems that I previously had have come back.

This maybe worth saying as I don't think it was mentioned in the installation instructions (or I missed it). Cyanogenmod wont flash if you have cwm4 installed as it needs cwm5. So 2 options, reroot with the guide on cyanogen page or the method I used. Attempt to flash the rom then when you get into a boot loop power off and boot into recovery. The failed attempt will have given you cwm5 so just flash the rom again and this time it will boot.

^ thats exactly what I did.

Impressions - Its fast. Really fast. Battery is alright. Will take a few cycles though.

Although, I keep losing my network sometimes but it comes back on right away, I don't know why this is happening. Also I keep getting a Google framework forceclose all the time. I don't know why thats happening either. Also it doesn't seem to play video's. I had to download DICE player and then video was alright. Should I just reflash and check again? or is the problem elsewhere?

Can anyone shed any light?

I had a couple of force closes the first time when I restored system data with titanium. The second time I only restored apps and app data and haven't had any force closes.

Hi Shotgun84!

How do you think it compares with your previous custom ROM's in terms of speed and battery?

Also, can you use other kernels with it as I seem to remember from my Nexus One days that you had to stick to the CM7 kernel.

I would say its easily as quick as villain and revolution. Moving around home screens and the app draw is nice and smooth. As for the battery, it seemed a little poor at first (drained 7% in a couple of minutes of browsing. But after charging it fully and calibrating its on par with revolution at the moment. I suppose that might improve a bit more after a couple of cycles.
I'm not too sure about the kernels I can use but i'm guessing kernels with cwm4 won't work as you needed 5 to flash the ROM. I will try and find some kernels, make a backup and give them a go.

Nimphetamine and siyah kernels don't work. I tried to find some custom kernels with cwm5 but couldn't find any. So if anyone knows of any I'll give them a try.

I couldn't find any kernels which work but while searching I did notice there were a few different kernels for cyanogen on the gs1. So you never know there might be some in the future.

Well just my 2 cent,

Battery seems to be good phone been on for 12 hours and down to 52% with good usage, Only fault i found is FM Radio dont work other than that very nice rom

Cheers Shotgun84!

What's it like on HD video recording and playback?

If you're recording a solid black object it works perfectly. :D
Seriously though I just tried it and when I try to switch to video all I get is a black screen then it force closes.

You can Flash different kernels with the ROM. Just flashed the new siyah kernel and everything seems to be working fine, well except video recording.

I've found a fix for the video recording issue. Here's the link if anyone needs it
Camera keeps force closing - CyanogenMod Forum

I would say the quality is an improvement on the original. There's also a nice mod which lets you use the power button as the capture button. I know a hardware button isn't anything new but atleast this way you still have the volume buttons to zoom.
