Root CyanogenMod help

Hello, first of all I want to tell that I am experienced computer user and know much things, but know nothing about android.

I just want to update my Wildfire to run Cyanogenmod Mod.

I read many things online and so far I know this:

I must ROOT it somehow first, to unlock permissions and features..

Maybe someone can help me and describe all process, or give links to other forum posts with detailed installation guides?

Also how to make phone to store apps in SD card automatically?
