Help D2G with a (possibly) nonexistant default Gmail account

My dad got a Droid 2 global a while ago, but the setup process didn't go so well. Because of this, he can't use anything that requires the default gmail account.

To start off, he made the account (we'll call it 'Alice'@gmail.com) a few years ago to use the video chat. But, he had forgotten the password when doing setup, so he put in the account name but no password.

Then he makes a second account (Bob@gmail.com) and tries to use that for the phone. This really doesn't work, so he passes the issue to me. So I go to google, and try to recover the password for 'Alice'. I get this message: "No account found with that email address. Please try again." Well that's annoying. So I decide to try to create one named 'Alice', and get this message "'Alice' is not available. [?] Here are some suggestions." Now I'm seriously confused.

So I'm pretty much asking if I can recover and use 'Alice' somehow (like a gmail password recovery on the phone), or if I can change 'Bob' to the default without a factory reset. Any ideas? All help is appreciated

You're firmly in factory reset land, I am afraid.

You can do this if your phone is rooted:
All you have to do is use Root Explorer or Absolute System Roottools and go to /data/system/ accounts.db/accounts and delete _id:3 -Name:'Alice'@gmail.com)
reboot your phone and do the four corners touch to bypass activation screen--go settings/accounts and make Bob@gmail.com the main account---'Alice'@gmail.com is a lost cause though cuzz the password is encrypted even though you can see it in Root Tools--hope it helps

*You can use AntTek Explorer instead of Root Explorer or Absolute--its free:)
**I would do a NANDROID backup before, just in case you delete the wrong file accidentally or your phone messes up---I deleted accounts.db to remove the main google account without doing a factory reset--worked great for me--hope it helps.
