Root Damn updates

I've noticed that just about everything that can be done to this phone can be done directly from the phone. Is there a way to root and install cmw without connecting to the computer? I went totally back to stock today because I'm so sick of messing with these damn updates. They don't like rooted phones for some reason. If anyone can help me with this I would appreciate it.

Unfortunately with the 2.3.6 updates, I believe a computer is required in order to get CWM on the phone, but I could be wrong. Using Odin seems to be the only (reliable) way of being able to install a custom recovery, and even then, a battery pull is required before the phone reboots itself, or the process has to be done all over again.

Once that's done, though, all else can be done straight from the phone. Sorry I couldn't be of more help. :/

It's all good man. I didn't think there was a way. Oh well, about to odin right now.
I went back to complete stock yesterday and have been waiting for the ota request....none yet, and i'm too damn impatient to wait. Plus when I woke up this morning, my network isn't working. No wifi at all. I even tried the wifi direct trick and it didn't work. I still have 3g but the icon doesn't turn green, just stays white even though I can access the internet. Weird, but hopefully I can get it to act right this time after I root it.
unfortunately, the new update works great, but it doesn't liek custom roms, so I may have to run stock rooted with the new update and test that out.
Any way here it goes. Will keep ya posted.
