Damn Verizon!!!

Bleh just saw the home page and no Galaxy S2 for Verizon. Chances are they may in fact pick up the Prime but if it's rumored to have a 5" display that's just way to big for me. 4.3 is my max and even then i still prefer a 4" screen overall. Anything larger just starts to become too big for a phone i use each day.

Surprising move though. With all the love the GS2 has been receiving across the web i am surprised it's going to be a no go with Verizon.

The SGS2 hasn't been released for any US carrier yet. From all reports it will be coming to all major carriers at some point. Last I heard was Sprint is supposed to get it first on Sep 9th.

If you're a VZ guy and don't mind waiting (or taking the chance of waiting) there was a report of a leaked document from VZ saying the Stratosphere (rumored SGS2 for VZ) is to be released on Sep 29th.

Do a little digging around and you should find all that info. Sorry but I'm a little too lazy to go and find it all at the moment.

Wow, I just read an update where VZ says they are skipping the SGS2. I'm super sad about that!

I have seriously been waiting for this phone since it was announced (been months but feels like years!) and I just simply can't believe it.

Yup I just read that also. Very disappointed as I have been dying for a slick 4G phone similar in size to the Droid X. I thought the SGS2 was going to be it.

Crushed....guess its a Bionic for me...love my DX...might as well stick with the Moto....Big Red you heartless bastard

I am beyond bummed. been waiting for a decent 4G phone and I suspect that the S2 is the best option, but if Verizon doesn't get it, I'm left out of the fun. grrr!

Although my contract won't be up for renewal until the end of next year, I was bummed about this news too. The only thing I can think of is maybe VZW is holding out for the Nexus Prime which is rumored to be coming from Samsung. If that's the case, then at least customers won't have to suckle on the anemic update teet of Samsung.

Samsung reminds me of octo-mom. They just keep pumping out phones without thinking of how to support them.

Even if the prime does have a 5 inch screen I believe they are doing away with the buttons for stock ics devices so that make space for the bigger screen. Think of the soft honeycomb buttons.

This is a complete joke. I'm tired of being on a network that stifles innovation. They don't want it to cut into sales of their clearly inferior Droid Bionic.

I won't buy another Motorola phone. I'm tired of them ruining Android with their bloat, I'm tired of their poor construction, and their locked bootloaders. I've had an upgrade available since the beginning of July waiting on the Galaxy S2 and now they've screwed me. Weighing my options, but it looks like it's either moving to Sprint and paying more or moving to an iPhone until I get better phone options from VZW.

Celox, Vigor, or Nexus Prime. I can wait until next May. My rooted Fascinate will do just fine until then. Or I can transfer my wife's update to my phone at any time. :)

I completely agree with Telexen. I have been waiting for the Galaxy S II to come to Verizon and I am extremely disappointed with them and their reasoning....that they have a lot of Droid to fill the void. Telexen is absolutely correct that the Moto devices are not up to par with the Galaxy S line (simple, just compare their worldwide sales figure and you know what the consumers want).

Pass on the Galaxy S II to get the Nexus Prime is not a good enough reason to me. In my humble opinion, a bird in the hand is far better than 2 in the bushes. Yes, there are many rumor circulating around, but we cannot be 100% certain that VzW will get the Nexus Prime. And just for argument's sake that they will, who knows how long it will take for VzW to pass their internal testing. We all know that VzW is known to drag their feet on that regard. So we might have to wait till 2012 to even see the Nexus Prime in the Verizon stores.

Last but not least, how do we know for sure that the other carriers will not get the Nexus Prime variants before Verizon?!?!?! Then they pass on the Galaxy S II and gain nothing.

While I'm not trying to start an argument, you can't really compare the worldwide GalaxyS2 numbers to the Droid line of phone. They are selling them everywhere (except where apple has strongarmed them out) whereas the Droid line is only sold by Verizon in the USA. If I remember correctly, Vodafone doesn't sell the Droid line, but their European equivalents (like and Incredible S instead of the Droid Incredible 2).

I do think it was a bad move to skip the S2. The Nexus Prime could be a GalaxyS2 with stock android but I don't think it would sell like a genuine S2 variant would. Mainly because in the USA they are recognized by people who don't read sites like this as much about as the Droid line and i*phone. They should've taken a clue from their own marketing with the Droid line. While people in the know may want a Nexus for it's stock out of the box & timely updates, everyday customers may not have heard of the Nexus line. But the way things have gove this year, it's hard to understand what Verizon has been thinking.

vzwuser76, we are civilized people, we don't argue, we talk. ;)

In my humble opinion, every mobile vendor is trying to compete with Apple. The Apple iPhone is a world phone that is being sold all over the world. That's why Motorola is losing market share to almost every vendor under the sun because either they don't have the capability to sell oversea or because of their short-sightedness (but that is another discussion), either way, in this day and age, if you cannot sell around the globe, you are not significant.

And I totally agree that Samsung has built up the Galaxy brand and it is their flagship line. Samsung made a Nexus phone before and it did not sell very well because as you have pointed out, majority of the consumers do not know what Nexus is. People buy brand name, period. And that is my point. Why would Verizon Wireless pass on a proven winner phone?

I am beginning to doubt the ability of VzW management.

Verizon Wireless exclusively launching Samsung DROID Prime in October

This just got interesting.

I was sold on temporarily abandoning Android for the iPhone5...but while I anticipate problems for early adopters of Android 4.0, the hardware is so much more powerful than the iPhone5 if it's got Apples A5 chip.

October would be nice, but I suspect sometime late november. If they are releasing the bionic in september and the vigor in october, I don't see why they would release the prime right after that.

I'm surprised to hear that some of you all are considering switching carriers because verizon doesn't have the best phones. Have you guys been on the other networks? They're a joke. And also the carrier with best phones changes every couple of months. Not too long ago, verizon was the one with the best line up. Sure they're a little behind now, but i bet once the prime comes out, it would regarded as one of the best again.

One of Verizon's worries about a 5" screen is the speed at which it will drain the battery.

Verizon itself is a joke, in my opinion. The only thing they do correctly is customer service: they haven't outsourced it to wherever yet, and people can actually understand and converse in English, rather than read from a script they don't understand.

I've tried both the HTC Incredible 2 and the Samsung Charge. They are both full of bugs and problems. I've heard similar things about the Motorola Droid 3, Droid X2. Those are five of Verizon's hottest phones. I've gone back to T Mobile and its $70 unlimited everything prepaid plan.

All phones have bugs. That's the nature of software. Just go to any phone's forum and you'll see tons people reporting bugs. Plus, bugs doesn't have much to do with verizon, it has to do with the manufacturer (unless of course the bug is connecting to the network.)

Tmobile plans are cheap, but you get what you pay for. Their coverage is sparce.

+1. My son and his family in Oakland CA has struggled for years with TMO. No signal in their house. Had to go outside. On several trips with them their TMO could not get a signal. My VZW always had one and I could call from their house. That impressed them. They now have a couple of DINC2's and got in under the wire with unlimited data. :D

Verizon has exactly one week to get their shit together before I buy something from another carrier. My beloved OG is gasping and I cannot wait any longer.

Well, my 2 year contract won't be up until next year. If Verizon carries the GSII, I plan to forgo the NE2 discount to get that phone. That means I have time. I will wait a couple more months and see how it plays out. If Verizon indeed has the Prime, I will switch to it. If it is just hot air and Verizon is not getting any top tier smart phone from Samsung, I will switch carrier.

By the way, as of the highly anticipated iPhone 5, have you read this article that the iPhone 5 might be boring?
The Next iPhone May Be Kind Of Boring, Unless You're A Carrier - Forbes

As I understand it, the screen of the Nexus Prime (or Droid Prime) is larger partly because there are no hard buttons. It's all screen. Ice Cream Sandwich uses the screen for all navigation, like a tablet would. I don't believe the actual phone is bigger.

You would think with all of the delays the bionic has had that Vzw would have adopted the GS 2 before other carriers.
I guess until the day comes that another carrier can match Verizons coverage we will always be behind the phone curve most of the time.
Sprint has nearly the same coverage in my area and I like that they still have unlimited data, so for me its bye bye verizon, hello sprint and the GS 2. I've been waiting a long time for this phone to drop.
Don't know who is in charge of vzw sales and marketing, but I think they may need some fresh blood in there. How do you not offer your customers one of the most successful phones out there ?

The incredible is a great phone. Actually it is amazing lol. Best Android phone of its time.

And Verizon is the greatest cellular company in the US. Especially with LTE - So amazing.

I've had T-Mobile in 3 states and trust me it isn't even worth the discount. Dropped calls, poor reception.
