Danger in syncing contact with Gmail

Hi Friends,

As a dynamic backup of all the contacts, we can sync our contacts with google. Whenever we made any change here it gets reflected in gmail and vice versa.

What if somebody got hands on our phone and deleted all the contacts or some contacts from the phone. Whenever we sync our phone again all the contacts from gmail will also be deleted. How can we prevent this? Is there any option in Gmail for only one sided contact syncing?

As anyone knows who has ever operated any kind of computerised device, it is always a good idea to make a backup of any data you want to keep, just in case something goes wrong.

Therefore I would view contacts on my phone synced with google contacts on my pc gmail whatever, as live data, & so I have a backup of it all in a separate place independant of anything that my phone or pc or google might do.

For contacts to back up on PC have a look on MyPhone Explorer :)
Easy to connect to PC via USB or WiFi or BT

Personally I'll try to export my contacts to vcf format and keep them safe somewhere. Using software for syncing contacts feels little risky to me. And also I doubt that this software will work on Microsoft Windows only, I use linux so I dont think this'll work on Ubuntu. I am also syncing my contacts using thunderbird with gmail, so in short Gmail + Android + PC all are synced :)

My Google Contacts is syncing to Outlook via cloud, but set so that any deletion or edit that happens will only be synced to Outlook if I allow it (merge prompt), so nothing happens without my knowledge.
