Dark mode in Android 10

MoodyBlues

Compassion is cool!
If you're using Android 10 (I'm not), you probably already know about its dark mode. But, apparently, not all of Google's apps have implemented it yet.

This article discusses dark mode and includes instructions for setting it in the Gmail app (which I don't use). It's a quick read.

Fair warning: the article talks about iOS, too. :o

:D :D

People being fed up with "blinding white mode", which has been Google's default for years?

Plus it changes the colours of other elements of Google's phone & contacts apps away from those nauseating pastels they introduced the other year. I mean, it's very nice of Google to give employment to people who want to be designers despite being colour blind, but they should include one person with normal vision in the UI team...

Im on 6.0.1 Marshmallow

what's the big deal about dark mode anyways??????

it's ahrite. nothing to rave about.
I understand and appreciate Hadron's take on it, but I'm also very much on the "what's the big deal" train. That's because dark mode is talked about SO MUCH and like it's God's gift to humanity, or the cure for AIDS or something. It's not! It's just a color scheme. Yes, an eyesight-sparing scheme for those middle of the night, abrupt WHITE moments, but it's -not- the best thing since sliced bread. So all the hoopla around it seems a little...much, for what it actually is.

I suspect that a lot of the fuss is because it's taken Google so long to do (despite leaks showing them testing it for at least 2 years).

Personally I always felt that the fact that Google's themes started going increasingly white at about the time they started using AMOLED displays with the Nexii (which of course use most power when displaying white) showed the level of joined-up thinking they apply to products (their data-gathering activities are usually more coherent).

LOL, Good for marketing a new version of android and an incetive to purchase a newer phone. The fact thst Google provides the user an option to change to dark theme? OMG!!!! ;)

I like it because of my eyes, though some pages can loose text options in dark mode.
Just to be clear, I'm not saying it's bad or stupid or unnecessary, or anything like that. Just that it's not the big deal it's made out to be. Curing AIDS or cancer or type 1 diabetes would be that big a deal, but this isn't.

As for those loose [rhymes with goose] text options, a screwdriver might help. But if you lose [rhymes with ooze] text options, that sucks. ;)

As for me, I get a kick out of having Android 10 dark themed the latest version of the official Google Play Store with an old Note 4 Android 6.0.1 would not be possible without root. Searching for information to dark Google PS on MM the only method I can find is on XDA is my stared thread. The real credit gose to the developers an xposed model by Alex193a and a "Night Mode" app by Sunham Tyagi. Being a exclusive feture of Android 10 and forbidden to the rest of us on lower OS versions but a wise marketing strategy for Android 10. (Android 9 has some exception)

LOL, my mod is now obsolete :(. The new updated PlayStore has made changes and a simple app can now provide the non-rooted user to theme Google PS.
