Are there any good alternatives to Dashclock for my Nexus 5. It doesnt seem to offer what I thought it would.
I'd preferably like an app that doesnt require me to install anything else like Battery Guru.

Nils with the Nils Floating Notifications extension. I think you have to get developer mode on you google account to be able to download the Floating Notifications App

Can you be more specific with where DashClock fell short of your expectations, or what you're wanting a replacement app to do?

I can't seem to get the notifications to pop up in the middle of the screen. All I get is a small symbol next to the clock, it may just be something that I'm missing in the settings, but I can't find it.

If you tap over the widget and drag your finger down, do you then see the notifications? It sounds like the widget just isn't expanded by default - which is normal, and unfortunately not something that an application has any control over (see FAQ - dashclock - Frequently asked questions - Lock screen clock widget for Android 4.2+ - Google Project Hosting).

Some ROMs (like PA, which I'm on) have a "Maximize Widgets" or "Expand Widgets" option for expanding those lockscreen widgets by default. Another option may be to use an actual lockscreen replacement like WidgetLocker in conjunction with DashClock.
