Dat Samsung Lag/Stutter

Hey guys,

I am strongly considering buying an unlocked S8 but am a little spooked at the treatment it got from Joe and Chris on last week's podcast. I was unable to reproduce the stutter they cited on a display model (even though it wasn't on display mode, even let me set up credentials and pin), so I'm curious, are you guys having a stuttery experience with the S8?

The only review I've seen mention it is Mr Mobiles and that was mainly connected to accessing Bixby.

I did a speed test on Phandroid last week that you can watch. The Galaxy S8 doesn't have any noticeable stutter at this time. You can see in the video that it's faster than the G6 in most cases, especially after a reboot.

The stutters and jitter are kinda hard to see for most folks. As a phone reviewer, I spend my time doing nothing but switching and comparing phones.

Compared to devices like the Pixel or the Moto G5 Plus, Samsung's devices have a slight delay when opening apps (as shown in Joe's video), and just some fluidity issues where it frequently drops frames, can occasionally hang when quickly jumping between apps.

If you don't see it on the display model -- and it's not something you've ever seen in previous Samsung devices -- I doubt you're going to notice it at all. From a reviewer's perspective, it's just a little something I noticed that bothers me.

Thanks for chiming in Joe and Chris, and President unicorn batman (seriously awesome). I'll be giving it a shot for at least a month, as my 6P is showing its age, and slowing WAY down, as well as regularly heating up under heavy usage. I'm a bit torn between waiting for the Pixel 2 or just upgrading now, typical.

Do you guys know if the rumored 3 month return period panned out?

I haven't seen any mention of it outside that initial rumor that was going around last month. Samsung's website still only shows the phone available for pre-order, so it's possible they can still offer that as some sort of incentive once the phone becomes officially available through them.
