data compression and opera max

stvs

Newbie
iam looking for data compression apps ,has anyone tried opera max? it says that can save 50% of data, but i want your experience with it.tnx

Hi stvs, :)

I'm a pretty heavy data user, and I've tried Max and a few others (like Onvao Extend. They may save some data for certain types of internet usage, but neither service was able to save more than 10MB for me over the course of a month.

That's probably not really their fault though - as VPNs, they're unable to process already-encrypted HTTPS traffic, and that's easily the majority of my data usage (Google+, Google Play Store, Google Play Music, and GMail are all encrypted to begin with).

I eventually decided that the inconvenience of having to re-enable the VPN each time my phone rebooted wasn't worth the ever-so-slight savings that I received. Your usage may be completely different, though, so feel free to try them out and report back. :)

so those apps cant compress HTTPS pages, the same for opera mini too? i want to use youtube sometimes...

Correct, SSL-encrypted traffic bypasses the VPN (at least with those compression apps - not sure that applies to other "real" VPNs).

So YouTube is probably not going to get compressed either.
