data connection icon question

Hi,

I just got the HTC Inspire with Anroid 2.3.3 on the AT&T network yesterday. This is my first Android phone. I am coming from have a Samsung Impression feature phone.

My question is: I am at home using my wifi connection and have data connection turned off on the HTC. My uploading data icon is showing. I don't understand why.

Is something not turned off correctly??

I don't want to use my data connection "minutes" when I have wifi available.

When you are on wifi, you will only see the wifi icon, not the up/down arrows like when you are on 3g.

I didn't think both icons were ever supposed to be there both at once. But this happened to me for a few mins last night on my phone with cyanogenmod. I thought it was weird and took a screenshot. I also checked GetIP :: Detecting Your IP Address :: and it showed I was coming from my home connection, not ATT.

They aren't. When you are on wifi, the 3g radio should turn off. He may not be fully connected to the wifi signal.
