data connection question

is this phone supposed to say 3g for the data connection or only "EV" i bought one for my fiance today and so far it only says "EV" just curious because her samsung admire always said 3g. thanks for any response on this issue

Some one (forget now who and which thread) mentioned that the metro store told him that after a couple weeks he should see 3g. Sort of a settling in period. I'm not sure why they would do that, but that's what he said. Take a look in one of the other threads here for the OM +.

I think each phone has a different way of displaying it. While some of the phones will display 3G I think others will display the EV. I don't see why it would switch between the two on one handset. Ex. Your Admire has always shown 3G and not EV, but the Optimus M+ shows EV and not 3G. The HTC Wildfire shows EV as well, no 3G icon. 3G and EV is practically the same thing right? So why make two icons for it. I don't think there is such a "settling" in period, but if my phone ever switches from EV to 3G I will let the forums know.

I did a quick search on "evdo" and found that it is 3G. The original OM is evdo rev 0 and the new OM+ is evdo rev A. The rev A increased speeds over the rev 0.

The screen shoot is taken from my OM. Notice that it has 3G and evdo rev 0. For those of you with the OM+, when you see the ev you should be getting 3G (and I'm not going to get into a fighting match of whether or not metro really has 3G because that is irrelevant, they have it, they just cap speed). If you see 1x then you are not getting 3G.

When you're phone displays the icon 1x that means it is operating at 1/10 of EV. 3g and EV are the same tech.

mine has shown 1x and ev only. i thought ev and 3g were like coke and pepsi, they're both cola drinks

EV and 3G are one and the same. EVDO rev A is 3G. Our phone will never say 3G (under the stock ROM, if you do a custom ROM it could very well say 3G if that's how you make the ROM). It will say EV or 1x depending on what signal it's receiving.
