Data deletion

I've got an S5 I want to sell. I did a factory reset. Then I learned data can be recovered.

So I encrypted the now factory reset phone. Then factory reset. Then loaded dummy contacts and pictures of carpet. Then encrypted and factory reset again.

So the question is. Have I done enough to make sure my data is unrecoverable? Will the fact I didn't encrypt it before deleting but did subsequent encryptions ensure I'm safe?

Hi, despite what you read in the media the chances of someone wanting to recover your data are that slim as to be negligible. You won't find many people who buy your phone going to the trouble of finding out your deep dark secrets. I think you have done everything enough to stop anyone from accessing anything recoverable on your phone. Phil

So the fact that I didn't encrypt my original data is fine? I don't have any secrets as such and I don't want to be paranoid but hearing of people recovering bank details and Google passwords is a little unnerving.

Hi, yes I understand that it can be frightening reading of these things, but you have to put it in perspective, it is only in a very tiny number of cases, I don't think there are gangs out there snapping up every used phone in the hope of retrieving some personal details. Phil
