data during voice call

When I make a voice call, my data shuts off. Is this suppose to happen? I have been talking to someone on speaker and try to google something and no 4g. when I hang up 4g comes back on. On verizon .

3g should still work but 4g doesn't work with voice anymore. It's because of the new network not the phone. I can't speak for Verizon but I know that it happens on AT&T and Sprint.

Verizon has not deployed voice over LTE yet, from anything I can find you cannot do both until they do.

Sprint uses 3G (CDMA) for voice calls, again until VOLTE, so you would think you could still get 4G or 1xRTT while on a call. You cannot, and it is absolutely because of the phone. The network issues are a little complicated, but the fact is Sprint (HTC) could have built the phone to do both. See [thread=854261]this.[/thread] The EVO LTE (LTEvo:)) could do both. The problem is the phone can only "talk" to one radio at a time, I'm not sure if the other carrier's M8s are all that way too.

Do you get any data while on a call at all? Is it just LTE that drops out, or do you get nothing? I'm curious about the other carriers, AT&T and T-Mobile as well.

According to VZW support, the G3 is capable of simultaneous talk/data over xlte. I read this response to a Q&A on the VZW site.

Now I'm not sure of this limited to the G3 or if all xlte devices can do this. My android phone is a lucid and my main phone is an iPhone 5S so I can't test it.

I can talk on the phone and browse the internet simultaneously. I'm with Verizon using the m8 in Tacoma Washington. Hmmm.

I thought if you have 4g lte,You should be able to talk on the phone and browse the internet simultaneously with any previder.

Sprint introduced tri-band technology, they call Spark. This network only allows Voice over LTE and does not work like the "old" technology.

With that said, Verizon still uses the "old" LTE technology. The way it works is your phone actually has 2 antennas. When you are on a phone call, one antenna connects to the 3G/2G/1x network to allow you to talk on the phone. At the SAME TIME, the second antenna connects to the 4G network to allow you to connect to the Data network.

If you are unable to connect to Data and Voice at the same time AND you are on Verizon AND you have an official Verizon Branded HTC ONE M8, then you either have a defective device or you do not have LTE in the area you are trying to connect.

Make sure you absolutely have a 4G LTE connection before trying to make a phone call. If you do and it goes away after making the phone call, then you need to contact Verizon for a replacement device. If you only have an extended or 3G connection and then try to make a phone call, you will not be able to use data at the same time.

I just called my wife at home and talked to her for about 10 minutes. At the same time, I also visited Android Forums, my bank website, the National Weather Service, and my own server. This was all done on the 4G LTE network while talking to someone on the phone at the same time.

Back in when I had a Thunderbolt( ... :( ) I could use voice and data at the same time as long as I had an LTE signal on VZW. When did that change?
