Data for Group Messages???

Hi, this is my first post so sorry if it sounds stupid or whatever.

I have the Droid Razr M with Verizon and I love my phone except I really hate that when I use the standard text messaging app, I have to use data for group messages and pictures??? Why? It's really annoying. I have limited data and don't want to have to turn it on and off every time. Or is there an app where I don't have to use data or what?

Thanks guys!

Welcome to AF witty, no stupid questions here.:)

Group messaging or picture messaging are MMS, not SMS (which uses dead space on the voice network). MMS required data of some kind (cellular or wifi). Any 3rd party app will also use data unfortunately.

Thanks so much! What's weird though is even when I'm on wi-fi it wants me to use data. So would that mean that it will only use data to send group texts and picture messaging?

GroupME is a group chat service that once set up with the app can operate completely over SMS. Pictures though have to be MMS.

Thanks, that's good to know. I don't group message much.

Do all parties need to be on the app/service?
