Data only tablet/phone

With Verizon's new prices, you can get a tablet for $10 plus $30 for 4gb.

I'm thinking I could get a 7 inch tablet and use a VoIP and Google voice and have a tablet and phone for $40 plus fees.

Think this is doable? Any tips on apps, bluetooth, etc...?

I can't answer your question, but I have a related one of my own.

Does anyone have any idea how much data, say, a 10 minute call on Voip or Google voice uses?

I've thought about going that route, but the problems I foresee are:
1) Are you going to carry a tablet with you everywhere you might want access to your phone? (i.e. bars, sporting events, parks, etc.)
2) I'm not impressed by the available tablets with 4G.
3) Under the new pricing, there are no subsidized tablets (from what I understand...could be wrong) and they are very expensive.

Yeah. Since I posted this, I went into Verizon to look at their tablets and I wasn't impressed. Also the 7in ones were still too big to carry with you all the time - I thought it might have been more portable.

Think there is any way to buy a phone off contract and use it as data only?

No, because Verizons network will see it as a phone and not a tablet and charge you accordingly. :)
