Data Question

I connected my phone to a 26" moniter. Will this increase my data? I would hate to be surprised when I get my bill! Lol

I can't think why it should. It's what you download to the phone over the cellular network that matters, so unless you are downloading more stuff in order to show it on the monitor I don't see how this will make a difference.

There are plenty of data usage monitoring apps and widgets if you want to keep an eye on this - 3G Watchdog is the one I use.

Thanks, that is exactly what I thought after someone told me this. He said something about a large screen uses more bandwith..blah blah blah...

No it won't use more data. It uses more working memory (RAM), but this is something different than using data.

Think like this: if you don't have an internet connection, you can still connect your device to a monitor. So it uses no data.

Typically even if the screen is different it shouldn't take any more data than when it was just the regular screen. The only thing that might happen is your phone might have to work harder to put it on a big screen like that. :)

Maybe it won't have to work that hard because I'm going from my phone to my 17" laptop to the monitor.

Thanks that makes sense. If that were true, I don't think they would have HDMI on phones that could connect to a 72" tv!
:D

everyone is right...

but the TV and Laptop... create an environment that makes the user ask for more data intensive services.

TV... you are using streaming video and multi-media consumption.

Laptop ... may use different version of the websites you visit.. which have more info/data, graphics and media.. showing you more info and using FLASH or HTML5.

so it may cause you to use more data... which you have to be careful of.. unless you have unlimited data from your carrier.

I don't have it actually connected to tv but to a laptop to 26" desk top monitor. It sure makes it easier on my old eyes! :)
