Data trasnsfer between PC & Android ICS

Hello,

How to transfer files between PC (Windows 7 or 8) to Android (ICS) over wireless LAN (without internet)?

Please don't say "use bluetooth"

Any help is highly appreciated

*I can do that from PC to Nokia Belle through an App called Dukto r5, a similar app would be perfect for me.

Hello and welcome to AF _ I've moved your thread to the Android Lounge where you will get some faster responses. :)

There is SwiFTP which runs an FTP server on your phone. Then you can connect to your phone using any FTP client on any computer that's on the same network.

Pretty useful if all you need to do is move files on and off the phone.

Thank you all, please advise me an app which works without internet, through a wireless router, they charge so much for internet data usage here, ex. moving a movie through the internet Wi-Fi will cost me more than the price of its original Blue-ray disc.

besides it much much faster to do it over wireless network than do it over WAN.

EStrongs File Explorer uses your home network via WiFi.
It connects by SMB protocol with your PC which has the SMB protocol by default. It isn't any other programm necessary on the PC.

On PC you have just to enable the access for one share or more shares of the PC's drive. These shares can be accessed by EStrongs.

I use EStrongs to access by WiFi shares of my network drive on my home network :)

Dear Harry,

I don't know what does SMB stand for, but as I noticed your device is HTC One X the same as mine and the app works fine with you, so I will turn off the internet modem and use only the wireless LAN field to share files through EStrong.

Thank you so much

Tariq

Dear Harry,

another thing, would you please recommend me some essential apps to work with HTC One X, like keyboard, antivirus, internet browser, weather forecast, etc, thanks

Hi Tariq,

SMB stands for the Samba protocol.
But you won't find the expression in EStrongs, there simply stands LAN on the tab which will show you your home network share :)

Well, apps on my One X :)
Keyboard and internet browser are stock. I haven't an antvirus app installed, but I've an AirPush detector, Lookout's Ad Network Detector.
WeatherPro of MeteoGroup with best forecast quality.
The One has a PDF reader, but for editing (annotations) RepliGo Reader is better.
MX Player for videos, QickPic as gallery.

That're some basics.
But it's depends what you want to do :)
car navigation, offroad routing, office docs editing, eBooks reading, drawing, photo editing, news reading, notes taking, to do list checking, forums browsing ...

Harry

Hi Harry,

What a wonderful help you afforded me, thank you

My last wish from you :) is an app for car nav for my wife, she's lost all the time :)
& offroad routing for me. please :)

I live in Europe and with trips in neighbour countries I have to prevent expensive data roaming. So, I use as car navigation Navigon-Garmin which can navigate offline without needing a data connection like Google Maps Navigation needs.
Depends of your country, CoPilot (also a offline car navigation) might be better with maps of more countries.

For hiking I use BackCountry Navigator with its free topographic maps for download.
To get topo maps could also depend of your country.
There might ViewRanger be better, but its premium topo maps are expensive.

Thank you Harry, after setting up all the apps, I will give you my own review, maybe I'd find something cool to tell about :)

have a nice day

There's an excellent sticky thread at the top of this section (Android Lounge) that goes through how to transfer files. As far as GPS goes, I'd recommend Navfree.

Thanks for the recommendation, what about VPN free service, do you advise any?, I'm traveling between some countries that blocks skype/gtalk/wlive etc video chat, "they wanna make more money from their own video calling" which makes it hard for me to see my little child & wife online :(
