data usage by Galaxy 3 tab

Recently acquired the tab and it automatically paired with my Galaxy Ace II x. i have a wifi only, no data plan on the phone.
Used the tab very briefly last night and noticed that it showed data usage, even though I had set it up on our wifi.
Am concerned that this might mean that a data usage charge will be levied by the phone provider.
We're in Canada and even though I have no data plan I can be charged for data usage.
How do I ensure that the tab only accesses via wifi? Thanks

If you have no data plan, your devices shouldn't be able to use data. Just keep mobile data turned off on both the Ace and the tab. That way, even if the carrier allows you to use data on a "you'll be charged later" "plan", the phone and tab can't use mobile data.

Thanks Rukbat. My wife and I are Macheads and new to this. Where does one turn off mobile data? We'll check the instructions in the meantime.
