Data Usage getting Zapped automatically on my Captivate

I am a new Captivate owner (little over a month now) and eventhough I don't use the Internet or Data I already am over my Data Plan amount. I checked my detail Data usage and I noticed that every night at 11:02 pm (when I am sleeping and phone is off) my phone is updating or using Data in some way and that is using up all my time. AT&T has been no help as I am sure they love the fact that I am already over the Plan amount and now can charge me more . Are there Apps that run in the background without me knowing it? How to fix??? Thanks!!

Interesting, I just recommended an elderly friend to try an Android phone through AT&T and I set the phone up to use the wifi at the office, to safe data. He went over within a few days and he seems to be hardly using the phone. Wonder if this is what is using all his data as well.

On my MyTouch3G slide 2.1, I can shut off the data and only use wifi, but his motorola backflip 2.1 there isn't a way to turn off data.

Maybe your email is set to poll the servers at night?
Or if you use FaceBook it may be set to auto synch, so every time someone does something your phone is downloading the notification. You can change that in FB directly or under Accounts/Synch and turn autosynch off.
