AndroidOS using data

The other day I was outside, enjoying my day playing Pokemon, when I noticed a lot of my data has been used. I checked what it was and Android os has almost used 1 gig of my data! 3 hours later I check again and 300mb of data was used (not all of it was from Android os) I checked everywhere and the only thing I found on it was to turn background data off, which will make me not get any notifications. I don't think it's that because that shouldn't use 1g of my data im a few days of going out, and I don't think it's because of pokemon. it's really frustrating because I ran out of data because of this, and I don't get any more until next month. I downloaded a 3Rd party app to see what is using the most data and found something called "root" with an android icon. What is this? Could this be the culprit? someone said that it is kind of fishy and they never heard of it. Please help.

"root" Is your phone rooted? And if so, how did you root it? Kingroot?

As my crystal ball is at the dry cleaners, what device have you actually got there, make, model, Android version, carrier, is it Chinese?

What's that "Direct TV. Offer Details" thing about, you've got some kind of ad problem as well? Have you been offered Uber, via the Play Store?

Did you install Pokemon Go from Google Play, or did it come from elsewhere?

ah yes I forgot to add that. No my phone is not rooted, that's why I'm sketched out. And im working with a Galaxy s7 edge, at&t, Android 6.0.1. The ad is from the app and yes I got pokemon go from the play store.
