Data Usage - Turning on/off Background data while using mobile data

Pezzie

Lurker
Hello,

Does anyone know where in Tasker I can tell it to turn on/off the Restrict Background Data in the Data usage in settings?

I want to automatically turn it off when using mobile data, and turn it back on when using WiFi.

I've searched all the settings and help but can't quite figure out which command to use.

Any suggestions would be appreciated.

Thanks

Thanks WarrisusZero.

I know that will turn off the auto-sync which will reduce some of the data. But from what I've read elsewhere it seems you need to root the phone to turn off the background data from Tasker. Will keep trying though.

I'd like to know about that, then, because I should be able to have total control over my data consumption without having a rooted phone.

You need secure settings pro. Set profile to context (state) wifi connected. Then task to (plug-in) secure settings pro. Then before you leave the secure settings task, go to the top and press the pen to (configure). You should now be in the secure settings app. Search through the different categories and find background data and select it. Then long press the task or press the plus button. Not sure which, to add a exit task. Your exit task will be back background data on off depending on what you want.

I had success without secure plugin.

Also you can turn off background data via setting per app. One advantage of quashing altogether is, apps like playstore restriction breaks many applications license, while period restrictions work fine.

My bluetooth butler is genius, if you are blind or busy and own a headset. Well, either genius or merely illustrates how deficient android is for the blind and busy.
