Data Usage with Randomly Opening Apps

Hello Everyone!

I have read dozens and dozens of Q&A regarding randomly opening apps on the Android, but my question goes a little bit deeper.

As of right now I do not have a data plan. However, I do connect to my home wifi every now and again and when I do at least a dozen apps open. Web, Maps, Mobile Back Up, Messaging (despite the fact I use Handcent), GMail, email, Facebook... all these applications that connect to the internet but that I do not use.

Which brings me to my question: if I were to get a data plan, would these randomly opening applications be connecting and chewing up my data usage without my knowledge? I would hate to be slammed with a giant data bill at the end of the month when I, in fact, haven't used any!

In case you are wondering:

1.) Model Number ? LG-P505R
2.) Firmware Version ? 2.2.2
3.) Baseband Version ? ___________
4.) Kernel Version ? 2.6.32.9
5.) Build Number ? FRG83G

This is a Rogers (Canada) phone which has been unlocked and is running on the Telus network. Many of the programs that open at random are Rogers programs that I cannot access even if I wanted to.

Country you are using your phone in ? Canada

Yes, they would be using data. Handcent also relies on the Messaging app to function, so they'll both be chewing up data. With ICS, you can limit certain apps' usage, but I don't think your phone will ever see ICS.
What plan would you look to get? How much data? You can also install an app that looks at how much data you're currently using. Rogers may even provide one (I know Verizon does).

Holy heck!
Thanks, dreadnatty.

I was just going to get the Flex 10 data plan from Telus but for my limited needs I think I will pass. This is kinda nuts! This phone was a gift but I think I'll give it back! ;-)
