Date format for threads & posts

Geejay

Newbie
Hi,

Just wondered if there was any way I could change the way the date format shows up for threads & posts from US to European, ie from mm/dd/yy to dd/mm/yy.

I appreciate this is a US forum, and it's not really a major issue for me, however it would just make it a bit easier to intuitively see when something was posted rather than have to do a mental conversion!

Cheers...

Hey! :)

Hmm, I've not yet been asked that question before, to be honest. I don't see any options for it that jump out at me, but that's not to say I'm not missing it myself. Will look around..

Thanks, appreciate it. I had a bit of a reccy myself, including thread display options in User CP, but like you say nothing jumps out

It appears to either have been disabled in these forums or not an option. Though I believe more likely the former as I'm sure I have seen it in other vBulletin forums before.

It'd be much better to have this date format change option for each user as they wish - please activate it if possible.

It may be a plugin, I can't find anything allowing it to be customized on a per user basis, only global.

Course, I've got quite the cold right now and my patience is thin so perhaps I've missed it again, but I just went though all the options I could find on it..

That's an unsupported version for a version of VB we don't use - but yes I believe it is.

We use 3.8.6 - do ya see that one? I don't mind you looking for me. :)

It does work on 3.8 apparently:

This will work on 3.8. Don't upload the XML. Just add the plugin directly using 'Add New Plugin' at the CP.

Product: vbuletin
Hook Location: global_start
Title: Custom Date & Time Formats
Execution Order: 5 - I don't know if this needs to be changed but 5 works fine on mine.
Plugin PHP Code:

"danfrance cannot see the plugincode as he is not a member"

Note that you still need to create the two user fields specified in the .txt file and change the 'fieldx' fields (I'm using field7 and field8 on mine) on the PHP Code (above) corresponding to the two field id's you have created.

Hope this helps.

I cannot find anything supported. Its a hack granted :)

Rob will not install unsupported plug-ins unless we find it necessary.

I will try but historically it doesn't happen. Maybe now that we have a dedicated developer guy he'd be more open to it.

I will try, but it won't be now. This weekend probably at the very earliest.

Maybe the developer could reverse engineer it ;)

Agreed. It's quite counter-intuitive for us Europeans. And if the day is 12th or less you don't even realise you need to do a conversion.

I wonder if the long format (dd-mmm-yyyy) could be used globally so that everyone gets it immediately. It's used for the user join dates.

Thanks.

I'm really surprised this isn't something built into V Bulletin by default.

Phases, I think this is great for us non-US members. Is it possible to abbreviate the months though, i.e. Aug or AUG instead of August as they now take up a fair amount of screen-estate?
