Help Dead on Arrival

Hi,

I already have a 2012 Nexus 7 (16GB), which works fine. I had a load of Tesco vouchers to spend, so though I'd splash out on the 32GB version, as mine is always running low on storage (I was going to pass on my 16GB to the wife/kids).

Anyway, to cut a long story short, it seems to be DoA.

I put it on to charge this morning (in my Asus official dock) and saw the charge icon come up and then disappear (as it should). However, before heading out to work, I plugged it direct into the charger (the Asus one) and went to work (no icons came on the screen this time), just in case it were to get dislodged from the dock by one of my kids.

I went to set it up tonight, but there's absolutely no response to any power input or any of the combination of power and volume buttons (with and without the power cable) as described by the Google Support pages. Neither is there any response if I plug it into my laptop (in case it's on but the screen's dead).

There's definitely power coming out of the supply (confirmed using my 16GB Nexus 7 and HTC One X) and my laptop.

Does anyone else have any techniques I can try?

I have noticed that, despite it appearing dead, the back is marginally warm to touch (not hot, just above the temperature you'd expect for something allegedly not turned on). Particularly along the left-hand side (when looking from the front).

*Sigh* I'm not having much luck with gadgets at the moment!

Sadly Tescos are out of stock of the 32GB 2012 model, so can't give me a direct replacement. They tried to offer me the 2013 16GB version for the same price before the chap realised it wasn't released yet. So as it stands, unless I can get this one working, I'll either have to wait until a replacement 32GB 2012 version becomes available (unlikely given that the 2013 version is going to be launched soon) or for the 16GB 2013 version to be released in a couple of weeks.

I would wait for the new version as it's going to be launched on 28th August. Hopefully Tesco might throw in some goodies (Club card points/vouchers) for your inconvenience.

I'm coming round to that idea. I wasn't bothered about going for the 2013 version initially (the 2012 version suits my needs fine); I just wanted the extra storage of the 32GB version, and the price was right (using a load of vouchers and a coupon). I suppose I can just deal with the lack of storage the way I do now - using an OTG cable with USB (although I have one of these already on order).

Tescos have already agreed to give me the 2013 version for the same price as they currently sell the 32GB 2012 version (i.e.

This is all accademic now - I've changed my mind and returned the faulty Nexus 7 to get my money and vouchers back.

I don't know why it didn't occur to me before, but the 2013 Nexus 7 is a slightly taller and narrower than the 2012 version, so it wouldn't fit my case and bluetooth keyboard. Plus I thought that it would be better for the kids to be using a 10" tablet for educational apps (more area for them to draw/write).

Sadly Tescos don't sell the Nexus 10, so I might have to go for a Samsung Galaxy Tab 2 or 3 10.1", neither of which are particularly inspiring. Hmmmm.
