Help Dead Razr

phillygator

Newbie
So I was on a road trip the other day and was using my Razr as a GPS. I happened to notice the phone was down to 30%, so I plugged in the car charger (not an official Razr charger). Immediately the phone shut down, and powered back up.

HOWEVER, the phone only got to the red M Dual Core technology screen before shutting down again. At that point the phone became completely unresponsive, so I took it to the Verizon store. The two salesmen played around with it, trying different button combinations (power + vol up, etc...). Nothing worked. Since the indicator light showed nothing while plugged in they told me the phone was fried.

When I got home today I tried plugging it into my computer and a solid white light comes on but the phone still wont boot. I also tried the wall charger and a certified Razr car charger, but I get nothing.

I've looked around online for answers but no one seems to have answers that work for me. Any direction would be much appreciated.

Definitely sounds like it's fried. How old is the phone? If you've had it less than a year, then you could try contacting Motorola and seeing if they'll honor the warranty. I would probably NOT tell them you used a non-Motorola car charger for it.

Not sure if Verizon would honor the warranty either, even if you told them it happened while using a Motorola-approved car charger, but it's worth a shot.

Did you try to boot into recovery mode? Ensure the phone is off. Press and hold the volume up, volume down and power button for a few seconds and let go. You should boot right into a menu where you can then use the volume down key to select recovery and then press the volume up key.

After that, you should see the familiar picture with our Droid friend on it. Press both the volume up and volume down key and it should boot into stock recovery.

From there, try wiping data (you will wipe out all your data and do a factory reset on the phone). You won't lose anything on the internal and external SD card.

See if this works first. If not, there are a few more things that involve fastbooting, if you're familiar with it. If not, I can point you in the right direction depending on what version of Android you were running (Gingerbread or ICS).

But, try the recovery mode first, if you can even get into it. If you can't, I would say your phone is fried more than likely.

Tried your recommendation for recovery mode, but the phone wont do anything besides show the white notification light.

I downloaded the droidRAZRutility file, but all the instructions for using it involve the phone booting into recovery mode, which I am unable to do.
